Nepalese Cultural Evening (2012)

Nepalese Cultural Evening; an event to showcase Nepalese culture, art and food to international audience as well as get-together of Nepalese in Germany was organized by Nepalese students studying in Technische Hochschule Mittel Hessen at Germany along with Information Technology Society Nepal (ITS-Nepal) on 18th of May 2012 at Lokal International, Giessen in  Germany. The event was supported by Technische Hochschule Mittel Hessen, International Buddy Program, Asta-Gießen, Lokal International and Nepal Pavillion-Frankfurt.  The revenue collected from the ticket sales of the program will be donated to support E-education for the students of “Shree Public Madhyamik Vidyalay” in Launiya- Tilathi, Saptari, Nepal.

Miss Pasma Daha and Mr. Pradeep Aryal was Master of Ceremony in the event. Honorary Nepalese Ambassador to Germany Mr. Suresh Prasad Pradhan graced the event as the chief guest. He applauded the students endeavor to showcase Nepalese culture and emphasized on students role in bridging the gap between two countries. Other guests included Mr. Prakash Mani Paudel counselor/DCM of Nepalese embassy in Germany, NRN NCC-Germany, Patron council Member Mr. Kumar Panta, executives and professors of different department from the university. Prof. Dr. –Ing Karl Friedrich Klein, Director of the international course Information and Communications Engineering shared his impression about how technical difference between the two nations can be improved through educational cooperation. He also praised the E-education program and assured help from his side for the continuation of the project in future.

The event saw an overwhelming turnout of international students as well as Nepalese from different parts of Germany. The program started with a documentary show demonstrating tourism and cultural facts of Nepal followed by various cultural performances, presentations and a Nepalese dinner in the evening. The audience was enthralled by the cultural performances by Ms. Samikshya Pokhrel, Ms. Pratikshya Pokhrel, Ms. Arpana Dangol, Ms. Pasma Dahal, Mrs. Roshana Kandel, Mrs. Sumana Adhikari, Mrs. Kabita Pradhan, Mrs. Roni Maskey, Mr. Kamal Puri, Mr. Chandra Shrestha and others. Members of the “Easy Band”  (a Nepalese musical group at germany) Mr. Bel Gurung, Mr. Santosh Raj Gurung and Mr. Laxman Joshi from Germany performed mesmerizing instrumental fusion music and songs with madal, flute, keyboard and guitar. Different Nepalese handicrafts were exhibited in the event by “Nepal Pavillon” from Frankfurt. Different broachers about Nepal collected from Nepalese Embassy in Germany were distributed to participants and guests.

Mr. Shailendra Jha, coordinator of the event expressed his joy at the success of the event and said “the aim of the event was not only to showcase the Nepalese art, culture and food but also to collect enough money to donate computers to Shree Public Madhyamik Vidyalay in Launiya- Tilathi, Saptari.” He was glad that a large number of people turned up and we are successful at collecting enough funds for it. Mr. Jha also expressed that he aimed to continue this event annually; so that the similar donation program could be extended to other schools at different parts of Nepal.
